Azerbaijan, Iran strengthen naval ties at AMAN-25 exercises in Pakistan
First Deputy Commander of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces Teymur Murshudov and Commander of the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shahram Irani have discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation in Pakistan.
Chief of Staff, 1st grade Captain Teymur Murshudov and Rear Admiral Shahram Irani held discussions as part of the AMAN-25 multinational exercise and the Aman Dialogue in Karachi, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry told Caliber.Az.
According to the defence ministry, the meeting focused on discussing the prospects for expanding naval cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran to ensure the security of the Caspian Sea.
The importance of conducting joint exercises in the marine waters to share expertise was emphasised.
The two sides exchanged views on a range of other issues of mutual interest.
The AMAN series of multinational exercises began in 2007 with the aim of fostering regional cooperation, enhancing interoperability, and demonstrating a unified commitment to combating terrorism and maritime crimes, including piracy. AMAN-25, the 9th edition of these exercises, is being held in Karachi, Pakistan on February 7-11, 2025.
The increasing global participation in AMAN exercises over the years highlights the international community's growing trust and confidence in the Pakistan Navy's efforts and contributions to improving maritime security. This success led to the introduction of the 'AMAN Dialogue' on February 8-10, 2025 to coincide with AMAN-25.
The Dialogue gathered Chiefs of Navies, Coast Guards, and Defence Forces to engage in discussions on global and regional security, fostering the exchange of ideas and the development of innovative solutions to address evolving maritime challenges through both multilateral and one-on-one meetings.
