Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan collaborate on frequency coordination and digital broadcasting

30 August 2024 20:37

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have engaged in discussions to coordinate frequencies for terrestrial communication services between the two nations.

The talks were held under the auspices of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and involved representatives from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The discussions centered on ensuring the uninterrupted operation of FM radio stations in Baku and the northern regions of Azerbaijan. The two sides explored the necessary steps to coordinate frequencies and prevent potential interference, a key issue given the increasing demand for clear and reliable communication channels.

Additionally, the transition to digital radio broadcasting using the DAB+ standard in Baku and northern Azerbaijan was a significant focus. Kazakhstan expressed interest in sharing experiences and insights on digital broadcasting, indicating a mutual desire to advance in this area.

The meeting also addressed the implementation of new generations of mobile communication services, with technical agreements reached concerning the introduction of services in the 700 MHz and 800 MHz frequency bands. This collaboration is seen as a step toward enhancing the quality and reach of communication services in both countries.

Background information

The coordination of frequencies and the transition to digital broadcasting are vital for countries like Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, which are striving to modernize their communication infrastructures. Both nations share similar challenges in ensuring uninterrupted communication services, especially in border regions where interference can be problematic.

As members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan often discuss such technical and infrastructural issues to harmonize standards and improve regional connectivity. Their cooperation in these areas reflects a broader trend in the region towards digital transformation and the adoption of advanced technologies to meet the growing needs of their populations.
