Azerbaijan to keep contributing to renewable energy transition via Middle Corridor
Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to the global shift toward renewable energy through the Middle Corridor, said Shahmar Hajiyev, head of department at the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), during the 13th CICA Think Tank Forum in Baku.
According to him, the Middle Corridor strengthens the potential of Central Asian countries in both traditional and renewable energy, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“The Middle Corridor represents an important potential source for the transportation of renewable energy. This concept is aimed at developing the region’s economy by creating new logistics routes between East Asia, Central Asia, and Europe, while also creating opportunities for renewable energy imports and exports,” he noted.
Hajiyev emphasised that the Middle Corridor not only expands logistics and transport opportunities in renewable energy but also opens new prospects in the energy market.
He added that simply creating renewable energy zones is not enough for sustainable development, stressing the need to advance the broader concept of “green energy.”
The Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan, he said, holds significant potential in the renewable sector.
“For example, Kalbajar and Lachin have opportunities for hydropower development, while Gubadli is suitable for solar energy. International cooperation is crucial for the green transition and sustainable development. Companies such as Masdar, BP, and ACWA Power play an important role in this process,” Hajiyev added.
