Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has held talks with NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska, focusing on security cooperation and regional stability.
The meeting took place on 22 January in Baku and reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO within existing partnership frameworks, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
Both sides highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue, saying it contributes positively to regional security. They also discussed potential cooperation in areas such as mine action and cybersecurity.
NATO representatives praised Azerbaijan’s participation in NATO-led peace support operations and missions, as well as its defence reforms and efforts to improve interoperability. Azerbaijan’s support for international processes in Afghanistan was also noted. The two sides recalled the visit to Azerbaijan last November by a delegation of permanent representatives from NATO member states.
The talks also covered the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalisation process, with discussions on diplomatic efforts and confidence-building measures aimed at achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus. The ministry said the agreements reached at the 8 August Washington Summit, along with prospects for peace and regional transport and connectivity projects, were part of the exchange.
The parties additionally exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
