Azerbaijan-Pakistan strengthen ties with December IGC talks on investment, infrastructure
Pakistan's Minister for Privatization and Investment, Abdul Aleem Khan, announced that the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) meeting will take place on December 24-25, 2024.
Khan chaired a meeting on November 28 to assess progress on investment and privatization matters, with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Qasim Mohiuddin, participating in the discussions via video link, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The ambassador informed that Azerbaijan is keen to invest in Pakistan through a Government-to-Government (G2G) model and participate in the privatization of state-owned enterprises. He added that Azerbaijan is considering investments in the construction of two six-lane motorways in Pakistan: the M6 (Sukkur-Hyderabad) and M9 (Karachi-Hyderabad).
In response, Aleem Khan requested the ambassador to complete the preparatory work before the two-day session of the joint Azerbaijan-Pakistan commission begins on December 24.
The minister further stated that Pakistan aims to strengthen its cooperation with Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries through coordinated efforts in the fields of privatization, investment, and communications.
He also expressed plans for separate meetings with the ambassadors of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan.
Aleem Khan emphasized that, in trade matters, Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries could serve as gateways for Pakistan to Eastern Europe, adding that "we must make every effort to seize this opportunity."
Note that, the previous meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission took place on December 2, 2021 in Baku.
