Azerbaijan, Pakistan to simplify transportation of goods through customs
Pakistan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee has said that work is underway to sign a transit trade agreement between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
"Azerbaijan and Pakistan are not neighbouring countries. Goods are transported through several borders. Therefore, the signing of such an agreement is very important. It will simplify the customs clearance of traded goods. The governments of both countries are actively working on the document. We hope that the work on the agreement will be completed soon," the ambassador told Report on September 30.
Moreover, the ambassador added that work is underway to sign a preferential trade agreement between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, the process will be completed in 2022.
"The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Pakistan is not high. We expect the current figures to rise as we work on two very important documents. We hope that these agreements will be signed soon. Bilateral trade is expected to greatly increase," the ambassador said.
The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Pakistan reached $11.729 million in 2021, which is 11.6 per cent less than in 2020. Bilateral trade made up $16.172 million from January through August 2022.
