Azerbaijan reaches e-permit accord with Russia, Iran
Azerbaijan has reached agreements with Russia and Iran to implement the electronic permit (e-permit) system, a key step aimed at streamlining and accelerating procedures in international freight transportation.
The announcement was made by Subhan Abilov, Director of the Freight Transportation Department at the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA), during the 2nd Caspian International Transport, Transit and Logistics Forum held in Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Speaking at the forum, Abilov emphasized Azerbaijan's growing role in the global transport sector, noting that the country serves not only as a major transit hub but also as an active participant in international cargo transportation.
“Azerbaijan has the opportunity to participate in international freight transportation across 52 countries—from Mongolia and China to the United Kingdom. We are very actively involved in these operations. In addition, significant progress has been made in the field of digitalization. All freight transportation services have already been transferred to an electronic format,” he said.
Abilov highlighted the continued importance of permit documentation issued by foreign states, describing it as one of the key issues facing international road freight transport.
According to the AYNA official, the e-permit system will significantly simplify the exchange of transport authorization documents required for cross-border cargo operations.
“The e-permit system enables the exchange of hundreds of thousands of documents issued to carriers and drivers for the execution of international freight transportation. Agreements have already been reached with Russia and Iran, which are among our largest transportation destinations, to implement the e-permit system,” he stated.
The planned introduction of the system is expected to reduce administrative burdens, improve efficiency in freight operations, and further advance the digital transformation of Azerbaijan's transport and logistics sector.
