Azerbaijan's AZAL, Uzbekistan Airways launch code-share partnership More Flights, More Flexibility
The national air carrier of Azerbaijan, AZAL, and Uzbekistan’s flagship airline, Uzbekistan Airways, have signed a code-share agreement, marking a significant step in expanding air connectivity and strengthening ties between the two countries.
AZAL’s press service informed Caliber.Az that the code-share agreement enables the two carriers to jointly operate flights, allowing each airline to sell tickets for the partner’s flights under its own flight code. This arrangement offers passengers a broader selection of routes and more convenient connections.
Thanks to this partnership, travellers flying between Baku and Tashkent will benefit from increased flexibility, with a total of nine weekly flight options now available from both airlines. The agreement enhances travel planning for both business and leisure passengers on this key regional route.
In addition, the code-share deal improves transit opportunities through the airlines’ hubs in Baku and Tashkent, offering a wider range of international connections. Passengers flying with Uzbekistan Airways will also be able to access Azerbaijan Airlines’ services on the Samarkand–Baku–Samarkand route, creating a more seamless travel experience from one of Uzbekistan’s major cultural and tourism centres.
Jamil Manizade, Commercial Director of Azerbaijan Airlines, emphasised the strategic significance of the agreement: “Our partnership with Uzbekistan Airways reflects our joint commitment to expanding route networks and deepening the ties between our peoples. We are proud to offer our passengers greater convenience, flexibility, and access to new destinations. This agreement represents a step forward in strengthening cooperation, boosting tourism, and fostering friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.”
Shukhrat Yadgarov, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Commerce and Tourism at Uzbekistan Airways, echoed these sentiments: “Each new agreement brings our cities and cultures closer together. This code-share with AZAL is more than a convenience—it is a symbol of the enduring friendship and openness between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. We believe this partnership will unlock new travel opportunities and deepen the bonds between our nations.”
