Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan hosts GreenFest in support of COP29 PHOTO

26 October 2024 13:31

In celebration of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Green World Solidarity Year, the GreenFest festival is taking place in Nakhchivan.

This festival is a collaborative effort organized by the ministries of Ecology and Natural Resources, Justice, Youth and Sports, and Education of the Autonomous Republic, alongside the Executive Power of Nakhchivan City, the State Energy Service, and Nakhchivan State University, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The initiative is supported by the Plenipotentiary Mission of the President of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

GreenFest will feature a variety of activities, including panel discussions, environmental exhibitions, and presentations focused on combating climate change, all with the participation of officials and experts.

In addition to these educational sessions, the festival will include a concert program, with live performances and DJ sets. The primary aim of GreenFest is to raise public awareness about collaborative solutions to environmental challenges, showcase efficient use of natural resources, and highlight the potential of green energy in the Autonomous Republic.

The event aligns with the objectives of COP29 and emphasizes the importance of solidarity for a sustainable future.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will take place in Azerbaijan this November. This decision was made during the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023. Baku is expected to welcome approximately 70,000 to 80,000 international attendees over the two-week event.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The COP, or “Conference of the Parties,” is the highest decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the UNFCCC, which has 198 member states. Unless otherwise decided, the COP convenes annually; the first COP was held in Berlin in March 1995, with its secretariat based in Bonn.
