Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General updates on Karabakh separatists' case
Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev provided new details on the high-profile case against Karabakh separatists.
Speaking to Russian media on the margins of the World Economic Forum, Aliyev confirmed that the investigation is now complete, with court proceedings set to commence soon, Caliber.Az reports.
“The process of reviewing the criminal case materials is ongoing for both the accused and the victims,” Aliyev stated. “Given the large number of victims involved, we will proceed according to international standards and Azerbaijani criminal law.”
Over the years, Azerbaijan's General Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings against 15 separatists, who were subsequently placed on an international wanted list. Following the anti-terrorist operation conducted on September 19-20, 2023, in Karabakh, Azerbaijani law enforcement detained several key figures from the separatist regime. They include three former leaders of the separatist regime Araik Harutyunyan, Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan, former so-called "state minister" Ruben Vardanyan, "speaker of the parliament" David Ishkhanyan, former "minister of foreign affairs" David Babayan, former "minister of defence" Levon Mnatsakanyan and so-called "deputy commander of the army" Davit Manukyan.
They are charged with unleashing war, terrorism, violation of humanitarian law during military operations, premeditated murders, creation of illegal armed formations and others. Azerbaijan's authorities announced the completion of the investigation into these cases in June of this year.
