Azerbaijan's UN rep says country committed to global energy security
Azerbaijan remains committed to contributing to global energy security, Husniya Mammadova, Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, said during a special meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) titled “Protecting energy and supply flows: Supporting global development through international cooperation.”
According to domestic media, Mammadova stressed that increasing instability in global energy markets has once again highlighted the strategic importance of energy security, diversification, and resilient infrastructure.
“Disruptions in supply chains, price volatility, and rising global demand continue to negatively affect development, while at the same time placing significant pressure on energy systems.
Azerbaijan, as a responsible producer of energy resources and a committed participant in the OPEC+ format, supports balanced and predictable energy markets. Excessive instability benefits neither producers nor consumers and creates uncertainty for the global economy.”
She noted that Azerbaijan is consistently implementing a balanced and pragmatic energy strategy based on diversification, reliability, and long-term partnerships.
“We are also actively advancing our green energy agenda and implementing plans to create 8 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity for domestic consumption, export, and to meet the needs of future data centres. Building on the success of major strategic projects such as the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor, Azerbaijan is now taking a leading role in developing next-generation green energy interconnectors linking the Caspian region, Central Asia, Türkiye, and Europe.
Through initiatives such as the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe corridor, the Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Europe Green Energy Corridor, and Trans-Caspian projects, we are contributing to the creation of a diversified intercontinental bridge for energy and digital connectivity. Together with the development of fiber-optic infrastructure and the Middle Corridor, these projects will strengthen regional connectivity, support Europe’s energy diversification efforts, and create a reliable bridge for both electricity and digital communication.”
In conclusion, Mammadova emphasized that Azerbaijan remains committed to contributing to global energy security through reliable supplies, diversified infrastructure, balanced energy policy, and expanded regional cooperation.
