Azerbaijan, Serbia hold first joint energy working group meeting
The first hybrid meeting of the joint working group on energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia has taken place, bringing together officials and energy sector representatives to discuss collaboration on gas supplies, green energy, and infrastructure development.
The meeting included representatives from key Azerbaijani institutions such as SOCAR, the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources, the Energy Regulatory Agency, and Azeristiliktechizat JSC, alongside participants from Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy and the state gas company Srbijagas, Caliber.Az reports per energy ministry.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Orhan Zeynalov, highlighted the growing cooperation between the two countries. He noted that the meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council held on February 15 in Belgrade, co-chaired by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Serbia, had contributed to further expanding bilateral ties.
Sonja Vlahović, State Secretary at Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy, emphasized that memoranda and agreements signed between the two countries have elevated their cooperation to a strategic level.
Discussions during the meeting focused on partnership opportunities in heat supply, green energy, and energy efficiency, as well as the development of the oil and gas sector and broader energy infrastructure. Participants noted that gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Serbia play an important role in strengthening the energy security of both Serbia and Europe as a whole.
The sides also exchanged views on a joint project to construct a gas-fired power plant in the Serbian city of Niš.
