Azerbaijan, Türkiye explore green energy, gas supply projects
From January to September, Azerbaijan exported over 1.4 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe through Bulgaria, said Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov on X page.
The minister noted that during the meeting with the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, they discussed various issues on the agenda related to energy cooperation, Caliber.Az reports.
“We evaluated the current status of joint projects related to the supply of Green Energy and gas to Türkiye and from there to Europe, the completion of the construction of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline, and the organization of the "4th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum,” he stated.
Moreover, during the forum, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó will meet with Azerbaijan's Energy Minister, Parviz Shahbazov, to discuss the pressing issue of energy security in Europe.
Szijjártó shared the news on his Facebook page, stating that he will also consult with the ministers of Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Slovakia on this matter.
He emphasised that US sanctions against Russia's Gazprombank pose a threat to the energy security of several Central European nations.
"This is a deliberate attempt to jeopardise the energy security of some Central European countries," he said, adding that despite these sanctions, the Hungarian government continues to ensure the supply of energy resources to the country.
Notably, Ministers from various countries, including Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Hungary, Libya, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Serbia, are currently gathering to discuss urgent energy matters at the ongoing Istanbul Energy Forum.
Hosted by Anadolu and organised under the auspices of Türkiye's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the forum, taking place at the Istanbul Congress Centre, brings together energy ministers, representatives from local and international NGOs, global organisations, academics, media professionals, and business leaders. The event is offering a platform for global dialogue on pressing energy issues.
Under the theme "Common Future, Common Goals," the forum is delving into regional energy objectives, Türkiye’s crucial role in ensuring natural gas supply security, strategies for financing the energy transition, as well as developments in oil and gas markets and technological innovations.
Speakers include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and Anadolu’s President and CEO Serdar Karagöz, who are addressing participants at a special session. Following this, a session hosted by the Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) will focus on "New Dynamics of Gas Security: Regional Perspectives."
Further discussions will cover "Prospects for New Technologies and Fuels in a Smart Energy Transition" and "Financing the Energy Transition: Expectations and Priorities."
