Azerbaijan, UAE strengthen aviation cooperation ahead of COP29
A two-day meeting has commenced in Baku between representatives of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The goal of the meeting is to exchange experience gained by the UAE in organising COP28 in Dubai and to enhance cooperation in civil aviation. This exchange of knowledge is particularly relevant as Baku prepares to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), AZAL told Caliber.Az.
AZAL representatives, including its leadership, are participating in the meeting. The UAE delegation consists of officials from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Dubai Airports, Jetex—specialising in private aviation and VIP services—and Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS). This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE on sustainable development and climate change.
A key focus of the event is to learn about the UAE's best practices in organising large-scale international events, which will be particularly relevant as preparation for COP29. The agenda includes discussions on logistics, flight safety, air traffic management, enhancing passenger comfort, as well as the application of digital technologies in aviation and improving airport management efficiency.
Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan. Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit. The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
