Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan set to boost trade ties with Termez Centre opening PHOTO
The Termez International Trade Centre was officially inaugurated in the city of Termez, Uzbekistan, on August 29.
The ceremony was attended by a delegation led by Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers told Caliber.Az.
During the event, Mustafayev met with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. The meeting highlighted the successful outcomes of joint projects between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan across various sectors, including investment, industry, agriculture, transportation, and oil and gas.
The dynamic growth of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was positively acknowledged, with a reported 28 percent increase in trade turnover from January to July this year.
The high level of collaboration in the transport and transit sector was also praised, particularly noting a 37 percent rise in transit shipments between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. During his visit, Mustafayev also met with Acting Afghan Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar. The meeting highlighted Azerbaijan's consistent contributions to stability and development in Afghanistan, including humanitarian efforts.
Prospects for expanding trade, economic, and investment relations between the two countries were discussed, with a mutual interest in enhancing cooperation in these areas. The parties also explored opportunities for collaboration in the transport and transit sector and emphasized the importance of developing the Lapis Lazuli international transport corridor.
