Azerbaijani flag raised in New York for Victory Day and National Flag Day
In New York, the Azerbaijani tricolour was raised to commemorate November 8 — Victory Day and November 9 — National Flag Day, according to the U.S. bureau of Report.
The flag was hoisted on a giant flagpole in Bowling Green Park, located on Wall Street, one of the city’s most visited streets and a symbol of New York’s financial centre.
The ceremony was organised by the Azerbaijan-New York Association.
Participants included Salhat Abbasova, Head of the Department of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora, Azerbaijani diaspora activists, and Azerbaijani students studying in the U.S.
Speakers highlighted the historical significance of November 8 — Victory Day, noting that for five years, the Azerbaijani people have lived with pride and joy following the victory they awaited for nearly 30 years. They emphasised that during the 44-day Patriotic War, the Azerbaijani nation united as one. The memory of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for this great victory, was also honoured.
Following the speeches, the State Anthem of Azerbaijan was played, and the national flag was raised.
The ceremony drew the attention of local residents and tourists, many of whom took photos with the Azerbaijani flag. Fellow Azerbaijanis provided visitors with detailed information about the history, culture, and traditions of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani flag will remain flying in Bowling Green for 10 days.
