On January 15, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Kairat Sarybay discussed the key priorities of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship in CICA for 2024-2026.
The sides also discussed current activities within the organisation and future prospects, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Azerbaijan, with its extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy, has already presented a conceptual document outlining proposals for the further development of CICA, as well as strengthening cooperation and trust among member states.
Bayramov emphasised Kazakhstan's significant role in the development of the organisation and stated that during Azerbaijan's chairmanship, special attention will be given to further enhancing the international standing and effectiveness of CICA, increasing its practical benefits for member states, and fostering the institutional development.
He highlighted the need for expanding cooperation in such spheres as education, climate change, youth policy, media, transportation, and several other fields.
Sarybay mentioned that his visit to Azerbaijan has a packed agenda, including meetings with various state agencies, which will be valuable for discussing the priorities of Azerbaijan's chairmanship.
The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. It is a forum based on the recognition that there is a close link between peace, security and stability in Asia and in the rest of the world. The Member States, while affirming their commitment to the UN Charter, believe that peace and security in Asia can be achieved through dialogue and cooperation leading to a common indivisible area of security in Asia where all states co-exist peacefully and their peoples live in peace, freedom and prosperity.
