Azerbaijani FM: Opening of transport communications with Armenia not a new topic
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has stated that the issue of opening transport communications between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not a new topic, highlighting that it has been a subject of discussion for some time.
Bayramov made these remarks to journalists, noting that the 2020 trilateral statement between Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia includes a specific clause outlining Armenia's obligations in this regard, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He emphasized that the issue had been under discussion for more than three years, and he considered the recent statement that "an agreement has been reached" to be overdue. "This agreement should have been reached long ago," he said, adding that the lack of an official document or any concrete action from Armenia indicates that unresolved questions remain.
Meanwhile, Bayramov pointed out that Azerbaijan has been rapidly advancing work on transportation and communication infrastructure, which will be brought to the border with Armenia in the near future.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently suggested that a decision on the opening of regional communications could eventually be made, noting that Armenia and Azerbaijan are close to reaching a mutually acceptable solution on the matter.
Bayramov also stated that the Azerbaijani delegation's current focus is on COP29, making a meeting with the Armenian side to discuss the draft peace agreement unlikely before December. He mentioned that such a meeting could take place in December or January of next year, although no concrete agreement has been reached yet.
