Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Russian experts to engage in decoding black boxes of crashed AZAL plane

31 December 2024 11:14

Specialists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Russia will travel to Brazil to participate in the decoding of data from the black boxes of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft that crashed in Kazakhstan, according to the Brazilian Air Force.

"In accordance with Appendix 13 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation and at the request of the Kazakhstan Aviation Accident Investigation Department, the Brazilian Center for Investigation and Prevention of Air Accidents (CENIPA) will host three of their representatives, as well as invited specialists from Azerbaijan and Russia. They will all observe the data decoding process," the Air Force’s statement reads, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

According to the statement, the black boxes are expected to arrive today, on December 31.

"Once the work is completed, the obtained data will be handed over to the Kazakhstan Aviation Accident Investigation Department, which is responsible for investigating the incident, in strict accordance with international protocols," the statement adds.

The statement also emphasizes that CENIPA's technologies, including three-dimensional animation in virtual reality with full flight visualization, will allow experts to accurately determine key parameters such as trajectory, speed, altitude, and the operation of the aircraft's control systems.

The AZAL passenger plane Embraer E190, operating the Baku-Grozny route, crashed on December 25, 2024, near Aktau. The crash resulted in the deaths of 38 passengers, including five crew members, out of the 67 people on board, with 29 survivors. Preliminary reports suggest that external physical and technical factors may have contributed to the crash, though the investigation is ongoing.
