Azerbaijani MFA: Pashinyan's statements reflect disregard for Armenian leadership's commitments

12 October 2024 15:12

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Aykhan Hajizada, in his commentary, stated that the Armenian Prime Minister’s allegations during his speech at the “Crossroads of Peace: Combining Security and Democracy” forum on October 12 are an attempt to distort the facts regarding the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020.

"The Armenian Prime Minister’s statement about the opening of communications, with reference to the trilateral statement, once again highlights the Armenian leadership’s disregard for the obligations it has undertaken," Hajizada stated, Caliber.Az reports.

Hajizada pointed out that Paragraph 9 of the trilateral statement clearly outlines Armenia's responsibilities regarding the opening of communications and the organization of control over transport links.

"More broadly, if we examine Armenia’s actions — violating other obligations from the trilateral statement of November 10, including Armenia’s failure to withdraw its illegal armed units from the Karabakh region until September 2023, transferring additional weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to Azerbaijani territories via the Lachin corridor (meant solely for humanitarian purposes), and perpetuating landmine terror against Azerbaijan — these violations stand as primary concerns," he noted.

He further emphasized: "No one has forgotten that while Armenia claimed to recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, it continued to support the puppet regime in Azerbaijani territories, and the Armenian Prime Minister even congratulated the separatist junta on its so-called 'independence' on September 2, 2023."

In response to the Armenian Prime Minister’s rhetorical questions about the Lachin corridor's activity and the return of refugees and internally displaced people, Hajizada remarked: "These claims are both surprising and mocking."

He also criticized Armenia’s assertions about prisoners of war: "It is ludicrous for the Armenian side to claim that prisoners of war have not been returned. Azerbaijan, adhering to the principle of humanism, has handed over all prisoners of war to the Armenian side. Azerbaijan is under no obligation to release war criminals and representatives of the separatist junta regime of Armenian origin."

Concluding his remarks, Hajizada called on Armenia's leadership: "We urge the leadership of Armenia, which once again did not give up its baseless claims against the territories of Azerbaijan laid within historical and international legal framework, and the falsification of history, grossly violated the principles of international law, and did not draw conclusions from the miserable situation it had fallen in due to its policy of aggression to refrain from statements exceeding any boundaries, distorting the realities and, as a result misleading the international community."
