Azerbaijani NGOs appeal to international community over torture of serviceman in Armenia
The Azerbaijani non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have appealed to the international community due to the inhumane treatment of the Azerbaijani military in Armenia.
“Two Azerbaijani servicemen got lost and ended up in Armenia early this week, due to adverse weather and poor visibility, the Armenian authorities confirmed that these servicemen are under their control,” Report informs citing the appeal.
However, later the video footage of the torture of these servicemen appeared in the Armenian press. The servicemen were beaten and humiliated. The Armenian authorities not only violate the Geneva Conventions, but they are also proud of their egregious mistreatment of these servicemen and the video footage. We call on the competent international organisations and institutions responsible for upholding justice not to remain silent regarding flagrant disregard for human rights and international humanitarian law, but to take urgent actions to prevent further tragedies. In similar cases, when Armenian servicemen accidentally crossed into the Azerbaijani territory, they were quickly, safe and sound, returned back. We urge you to assist in the safe return of both Azerbaijani citizens to their homeland,” the appeal said.
