Azerbaijani, Russian foreign ministers discuss situation around Lachin road
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov initiated a telephone conversation on December 22.
The ministers discussed the current situation in the region and the situation with the Lachin road, issues related to compliance with trilateral statements, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Bayramov stressed that the Azerbaijani side, abiding by its obligations, provides safe movement of citizens, vehicles and goods along the Lachin road, and noted the existence of videos featuring the road’s openness, the movement of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) vehicles, Armenian ambulances, peacekeeping contingent vehicles and other vehicles.
The ongoing peaceful protest by Azerbaijani eco-activists on the road is aimed against the illegal economic activities of Armenians in Azerbaijani territory, he said, noting the importance to meet these demands of the protesters and the demands to prevent military provocations.
Even though all conditions for the use of the road for humanitarian purposes were ensured, the Armenian side and the so-called "representatives" of Armenian residents in the Azerbaijani territories artificially create the impression of an alleged deterioration of the humanitarian situation, which is unacceptable, the minister stressed.
The phone talks between top diplomats of Azerbaijan and Russia were also remembered by discussions on cooperative issues on the bilateral agenda and other issues of mutual interest.
