Azerbaijani top diplomat fills EU Commissioner in on Zangazur corridor’s importance PHOTO

As part of his visit to Hungary, on September 5, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met European Union Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi in Budapest.

Relations between Azerbaijan and the EU and the current situation in the region were discussed at the meeting, the Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

Jeyhun Bayramov noted the existence of an agenda for multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU, expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation in political, economic, trade, transport, energy security, etc. According to him, the draft of a new comprehensive agreement to be signed between Azerbaijan and the EU, can play an important role in the further development of ties.

The importance of the memorandum of understanding between Azerbaijan and the EU on a strategic partnership in the field of energy, which provides for joint activities in the field of energy security and the development of alternative energy, was emphasized.

Speaking about the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan to expand the potential of the Middle Corridor, Jeyhun Bayramov stressed that the opening of all transport and communication lines in the region, including the Zangazur corridor, can serve as an important contribution to the process.

Jeyhun Bayramov informed the interlocutor in detail about the current situation in the region at the post-conflict stage, the steps taken by Azerbaijan to normalize relations with Armenia, for signing a peace treaty and reintegration of the Armenian population of the region, as well as about Armenia's provocations that undermine the peace process.
