Baku, Astana, and Tashkent set to sign green energy partnership agreement
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan are preparing to sign an intergovernmental agreement aimed at bolstering strategic cooperation in the development and dissemination of green energy technologies.
The agreement will solidify a trilateral commitment to enhancing collaboration in the energy sector, focusing on clean and renewable energy sources (RES) as well as energy efficiency, Caliber.Az reports referring to the Kazakh government.
The agreement outlines plans for joint initiatives, including the transmission and distribution of electricity derived from RES, the identification of projects involving environmentally friendly hydrogen and ammonia production, and the facilitation of clean energy exports to Europe and other regions. Additionally, the document emphasizes cooperation in adopting new technologies and advancing energy efficiency and conservation services.
To facilitate implementation, the agreement will establish a Steering Committee and a working group tasked with developing annual cooperation plans. It is set to remain in force indefinitely.
Previously, on May 1, 2024, energy ministers from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation at the Tashkent International Investment Forum. This memorandum explores the feasibility of connecting the energy systems of the three nations through a high-voltage cable along the Caspian Sea bed and across other territories, enabling the export of green energy from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan to Europe.
