Belarus, Russia strengthen unified defence, says Lukashenko
Belarus and Russia are jointly defending shared goals and ideals on the international stage, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in a statement commemorating the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia.
According to BelTA, the presidents of both countries exchanged congratulations on the occasion.
“Minsk and Moscow are united in defending their objectives and ideals internationally, supporting each other against unlawful sanctions, strengthening a unified defence potential, working to reduce military-political tensions, and striving to restore global trust,” Lukashenko said. He noted that 30 years since the signing of the Treaty on the Formation of the Belarus-Russia Community have proven the project’s viability, resilience, and effectiveness.
“Mutually beneficial partnerships in various sectors, growing trade volumes, and the implementation of bilateral programs and projects open new opportunities to sustainably improve the welfare of our peoples. We ensure food security and technological sovereignty within the Union State. Both countries are creating a shared scientific, educational, informational, and cultural space where citizens of Belarus and Russia feel part of a unified whole,” the Belarusian leader added.
Lukashenko expressed confidence that the pace of strategic partnership set by the Supreme State Council of the Union State in early 2026 meets the aspirations of both peoples for higher living standards, peace, and stability. He wished Russian President Vladimir Putin health, happiness, harmony, and success in achieving their goals.
