Border demarcation impossible as long as Armenia considers Azerbaijan's lands its own Pashinyan's associate says
Andranik Kocharyan, the head of the Armenian Parliament's Defence and Security Commission, recently spoke to Armenian media about the delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports.
In his comments, Kocharyan addressed the issue of how to resolve the problems with Azerbaijan when there is a dispute over the ownership of certain lands.
Kocharyan emphasised that the peace process is not about granting new territories, but rather about drawing a line that cannot be violated, which is the state border. He explained that to achieve peace, the first step is to find a map and negotiate on it. Then, the border should be compared, considering the terrain, such as mountains, rivers, and plains. After that, a constructive agreement with provisions should be made, which includes the stationing of border troops.
Kocharyan also stated that the problem of the state border is the most acute problem that divides Armenia and Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is essential to solve this problem through negotiations and to respect internationally recognised borders. He stressed that what belongs to Azerbaijan should be theirs, and what belongs to Armenia should be theirs. Kocharyan added that it is necessary to overcome the perception of seeing everything as belonging to Armenia, even if it is not legally recognized as such.
In conclusion, Kocharyan highlighted that the issue of the state border is being solved, and everyone is concerned about it. He urged everyone to respect the internationally recognised borders and not to claim ownership of lands that do not belong to them.
