06 June 2024 12:19

Vice President for Gas and Low-Carbon Energy Growth at BP AGT Katerina Papalexandri has said that global demand for gas will remain high despite renewable energy sources.

Papalexandri made these remarks at the Baku Energy Forum, Caliber.Az reports.

“Gas can be considered a reserve, a support in relation to renewable energy sources. Gas storage is relatively cheap. We think that demand for gas will remain high, so gas is of paramount importance in our strategy,” she noted.

Papalexandri noted that gas is considered an important element in the energy portfolio.

The company said that natural gas will continue to be a leading alternative to coal for many years as the emissions decline for two decades. The situation in the US can be cited as an example.

She also emphasised that it is necessary to maintain balance and balance when making investments in the transition to green energy.

In particular, she mentioned investments in improving technology, energy system security, and decarbonisation.

“The investments in the gas sector are important. We are using the most advanced technologies, in particular, in the Caspian Sea - Sangachal, Shah Deniz, for these investments to play a role in the coming years,” she said.
