Chief of Belgian research academy says dialogue crucial while fighting Islamophobia
A conference aimed at addressing Islamophobia is seeking to develop recommendations for targeted action to eradicate the phenomenon and promote understanding through dialogue, said Brahim Laytouss, Director General of Belgium-based European Development and Research Academy (EDARA).
He noted that islamophobia is not only an irrational fear of Islam and Muslims but also a social phenomenon, per Report.
Islamophobia is a complex issue that necessitates political solutions. Muslim citizens of Europe must engage in dialogue, even if errors are made or progress is not being made. The speaker aspires to bridge differences in the future by continuing to engage in dialogue.
At the conference, Laytouss mentioned Azerbaijan's efforts to combat Islamophobia, while acknowledging the diverse range of opinions and voices on the matter. The conference was praised for providing a platform for diverse opinions and voices, including representatives from different countries, academics, politicians, and experts.
"Hopefully, Islamophobia can be addressed through recommendations and dialogue, fostering unity rather than division. This approach offers the potential for positive change in the future. Failure to do so may result in increased polarization and confrontation. It is essential to promote mutual understanding, dialogue, and diverse perspectives to effectively address this issue," he said.
