Erdoğan emphasizes commitment to law and justice amid opposition criticism

23 March 2025 10:09

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed the government's commitment to common sense, patience, and calmness in the face of ongoing opposition actions.

Speaking at an iftar event hosted by the Istanbul branch of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Erdoğan addressed the political tensions currently gripping the country, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

"Our municipalities will not align with corruption or injustice," Erdoğan stated, emphasizing that local authorities will continue to serve the people with integrity and respect for the law.

He also expressed his frustration with opposition parties, accusing them of intentionally stoking division and discord among the Turkish public. "For the past four days, the opposition has been doing everything it can to pit people against one another," he added.

Erdoğan took a strong stance against the opposition’s political tactics, suggesting that it would not regain its legitimacy or credibility until it purged corrupt individuals who have infiltrated its ranks. "The opposition is entangled with corrupt elements, like poisonous ivy, and it will not be able to restore its political authority and identity until it removes them," Erdoğan remarked.

The Turkish president also delivered a firm message on the state of justice in the country, declaring that the days of "street terrorism" influencing politics and justice were over.

He urged that democracy and the rule of law should be upheld without interference, highlighting the independence of the judiciary. "If you have the courage, let democracy and the law work," Erdoğan said, emphasizing that no individual or group is above the law in Türkiye.
