Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a trilateral meeting in Ankara with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who are on an official visit to Türkiye.
The tripartite meeting was held at the Presidential Complex behind closed doors, according to TRT Haber.
In turn, Israeli media has reported that the subject of the talks was overcoming the division in the Palestinian street.
"There was a deep and honest discussion, in consultation with other factions and movements in order to prepare a meeting of the heads of all Palestinian movements, which should take place in Cairo on July 29-30," Hamas Politburo Member Husam Badran said.
A condition for the group's participation in the Cairo meeting was the release by PA authorities of Sheikh Mustafa Abu Ara, a senior Hamas activist.
Attempts to bridge the divide on the Palestinian street were launched shortly after Hamas, through a military coup, seized power in the Gaza Strip in 2007. Numerous rounds of negotiations, most of them mediated by Egypt, have come to nothing.
