Erdogan: Türkiye eyes development of transport corridors via Caspian Sea and Zangezur

27 March 2025 09:50

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan outlined Türkiye’s ambitious vision for enhancing global trade and transport routes, including the establishment of a strategic corridor through the Caspian Sea and Zangezur.

This was part of his address during the unveiling of Türkiye's Industrial and Technological Strategy for the 2025-2030 period, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Speaking in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye's commitment to strengthening its transport and logistics infrastructure in collaboration with its key partners, aiming to bolster trade relations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The proposed corridor will link the region through Iraq's Basra and extend through critical points, including the Caspian Sea and Zangezur, promising to streamline access to important global markets.

Türkiye's ambitious strategy also includes the sharing of its growing industrial expertise with Turkic nations, countries in the Middle East, and Africa. Erdogan stated that this collaboration would help elevate the scientific and economic capacities of these nations, reinforcing Türkiye's position as a pivotal player in global technological development.

“Our goal is to achieve technological independence for Türkiye,” said Erdogan, emphasizing the nation’s aspiration to develop cutting-edge technologies and expand the production and export of high-tech goods. He highlighted several key national projects that reflect Türkiye's strides toward industrial advancement, including the indigenous fifth-generation fighter aircraft, the TOGG electric vehicle, and the TÜRKSAT 6A telecommunications satellite, 80% of whose components were developed locally.

The President further noted that Türkiye's advancements in satellite technology place the country among a select group of just 11 nations globally capable of developing satellites. Erdogan also took pride in the success of Turkish UAVs, calling them a "source of national pride" and reinforcing Türkiye's rising influence on the global stage.
