EU, Armenia sign connectivity deal at Yerevan summit
The European Union and Armenia signed Connectivity Partnership on May 5, marking the central outcome of the first-ever Armenia–EU Summit held in Yerevan.
The agreement was signed during a high-level meeting attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa, alongside other senior officials, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The EU–Armenia Connectivity Partnership is designed to significantly expand cooperation in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure. It aligns with the EU’s broader Cross-Regional Connectivity Agenda and Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, with the aim of boosting trade, creating jobs, strengthening resilience, and supporting regional stability.
The partnership will be institutionalised through a new High-Level Dialogue on Connectivity, along with a separate High-Level Transport Dialogue launched during the summit.
Alongside the agreement, the EU announced a Call for Expressions of Interest inviting companies from the EU, the European Economic Area, and Armenia to develop strategic investment projects in Armenia. The initiative is intended to attract private sector investment in areas such as digital infrastructure, semiconductor skills, innovation ecosystems, and investment mobilisation.
Several Letters of Intent were also signed with selected private partners, aimed at supporting concrete investment projects with potential economic impact across key sectors.
The summit also saw the formal presentation of the first progress report on Armenia’s implementation of its visa liberalisation action plan.
