Expert: Russia should toughly respond to Armenia for approving Rome Statute
Russian specialist in interethnic conflicts Yevgeny Mikhailov has said that Russia’s response to Armenia’s ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) should include “tough measures,” and not only diplomatic ones.
“Now our diplomats must take actions and then, I feel that military actions may be taken,” Mikhailov said in an interview with Tsargrad.tv.
He noted that otherwise, the Russian Federation risks getting “another Western outpost” nearby.
The ratification of the Rome Statute shows that Armenia is committed to partnership with the US and the EU and confirms its negative attitude towards Russia. Russian officials may be even arrested if they visit Armenia.
Mikhailov also stressed that the Armenian authorities will decide to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) and Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) in the future.
Another Russian political analyst Alexey Chadayev agrees with Mikhailov saying that Armenia demonstrates its intention to “acquire new friends”.
