Geneva hosts conference on challenges of landmines in Azerbaijan
From November 21 to 25, 2022, a delegation consisting of representatives of Azerbaijan's Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), the Secretariat of the Interagency Headquarters Coordination Centre for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Liberated Territories, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan held the 20th meeting of the "Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Reservation, Production and Transportation of Anti-Personnel Mines and their Destruction" in Geneva, Switzerland.
ANAMA told APA that the delegation presented the position of Azerbaijan at the meeting and informed about the mine problem our country faces, the large-scale humanitarian demining activities conducted by the government, and rehabilitation work for the return of former internally displaced persons to their lands.
The delegation members noted that the ongoing demining operations serve sustainable development.
The visit also included an event entitled "Humanitarian Demining Problems and Partnerships Leading to Joint Solutions", which focused on the demining challenges faced by Azerbaijan.
The main purpose of the event, which was attended by more than thirty representatives, is to convey to the general public the mine problem existing in Azerbaijan in more detail and unite efforts at the international level to solve it.
