Georgia closes passage for cars on border with Russia for month
Due to repair work at the Kazbegi-Upper Lars customs checkpoint on the border with the Russian Federation, the Georgian authorities will close passages for cars from May 5 for a month.
"The Revenue Service of Finance Ministry informs that from May 5, for one month, due to construction and rehabilitation works [in order to build new passages for cars], the operation of existing passages for cars will be temporarily suspended," the press service of the Revenue Service of Georgian Finance Ministry said, TASS reports.
Passenger vehicles with certain delays can pass through passages intended for cargo vehicles. The Revenue Service also clarifies that the movement of people through the customs checkpoint will occur as usual without any obstacles.
Notably, "Kazbegi - Upper Lars" is the only checkpoint operating today on the Georgian-Russian border.
