Georgia extends assistance program for Ukrainian refugees for six months
The program of assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Georgia has been extended for six months, Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili said at a briefing after a government meeting on October 25.
The minister said that as of today, 500 families from Ukraine in Georgia are receiving assistance to pay for apartment rent - $108.71 per family. In addition, more than 1,050 people receive monthly social assistance - $16.31 per person, Novosti Georgia reports.
“The state has been actively supporting Ukrainian refugees since February. At first, they were dealt with by the mayor's office and the department of tourism, and from July 15 - by the Agency for Settlers.
We have special points at the borders where you can appeal for help. We help families with monthly rent and also provide social assistance. They receive the same assistance as the Georgian refugees from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali. We have extended this program for six months,” Azarashvili said.
The minister also cited statistics, according to which, after July, the Georgian government financed social assistance to refugees from Ukraine and the rental of apartments for about $652,000.
According to the minister, the government paid up to $72,370 for temporary housing for citizens who came from Ukraine to Georgia.
