Georgia’s former top prosecutor faces international manhunt
Georgian authorities plan to bring former Chief Prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze to criminal responsibility in connection with the murder of businessman Levan Jangveladze, committed earlier this spring, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze told a briefing.
Darakhvelidze stated that investigators have determined that the former prosecutor acted as the organizer of the attack, Caliber. Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has issued a formal decision to prosecute Otar Partskhaladze,” Darakhvelidze said.
He added that, within the timeframe stipulated by law, prosecutors intend to petition the court to impose pretrial detention as a preventive measure. The authorities also plan to place Partskhaladze on an international wanted list.
Businessman Levan Jangveladze was shot dead in Tbilisi on March 14, 2025. The suspected gunman, Gela Udzilauri, admitted his guilt following his arrest but denied that the killing was carried out on a contract basis.
Partskhaladze served as Georgia’s Prosecutor General from November 7 to December 30, 2013. He currently holds Russian citizenship, with his passport issued under the name Otar Romanov Partskhaladze.
