Georgia's ruling party condemns OSCE resolution as "shameful"
Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party has denounced a resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), calling it "shameful" and accusing the body of misrepresenting the political situation in the country.
Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party and Mayor of Tbilisi, said the resolution was "riddled with falsehoods" and questioned the credibility of the OSCE's election observation missions, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"It is regrettable that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has supported such a shameful resolution. The organisation is invited to Georgia to observe elections, but when it adopts a resolution based on falsehoods, what credibility can its election observation have?" Kaladze told journalists.
He also questioned whether Georgia should continue inviting the OSCE to monitor future elections following the adoption of the document.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly approved the declaration during its annual session in The Hague. The text includes a resolution drafted by US Congressman Joe Wilson, which argues that Georgia's 2024 parliamentary elections and 2025 local elections were flawed and did not accurately reflect the will of voters.
The resolution also raises concerns over democratic governance and alleged restrictions on freedom of assembly in the country.
Georgia's delegation walked out of the assembly before the vote in protest against the resolution.
The Georgian government has repeatedly rejected international criticism of its electoral process, maintaining that recent elections were conducted in accordance with democratic standards.
