Georgian court arrests former MP Kurtanidze
The Batumi City Court has ruled to place former member of the Georgian Parliament, Luka Kurtanidze, under pre-trial detention following serious allegations of domestic abuse.
Kurtanidze, who previously served as an MP representing the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, faces charges of physical violence against a family member, intentional damage to their property, and violation of the terms of a restraining order, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
According to the sources, the prosecution requested the strictest form of pre-trial measure—custody—while the defence petitioned for his release on bail set at 50,000 lari (approximately $18,500).
The court ultimately sided with the prosecution, ordering that Kurtanidze remain in custody while the investigation continues. The charges, if proven, could result in a prison sentence of up to five years.
