Georgian Parliament Chair: No compromise on peace for European integration
Georgia will not compromise its peaceful development for the sake of its European aspirations, declared Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament.
Papuashvili emphasized that, despite the onset of conflict in Ukraine, Georgian authorities opted against imposing sanctions on Russia, noting the potential harm to Georgia itself, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
He assured that the country adheres to international anti-Russian sanctions concerning finance and goods movement, with no confirmed accusations of sanction circumvention against Georgia.
The Georgian authorities are committed to pursuing EU membership through peaceful means, Papuashvili said, stressing that this goal should not jeopardize the country’s peace, dignity, or well-being.
Under the Georgian Dream government over the past 12 years, the country has achieved an Association Agreement with the EU, visa liberalization, and EU candidate status, according to Papuashvili. He also pointed out that Georgia had previously waited three years for visa liberalization talks and anticipates a similar timeline for the current negotiations.
