Georgian parliament welcomes US sanctions on European officials
Georgia’s parliament has welcomed recent US sanctions against five European figures, describing the move as a form of political “boomerang” against what it views as interference in other countries’ internal affairs.
Member of Parliament Tengiz Sharmanshvili said the sanctions illustrated the consequences of what he described as “unjustified external pressure,” arguing that those who interfere in the sovereignty of others and impose restrictions without sufficient grounds eventually face similar measures themselves, Caliber.Az reports.
The comments followed a US decision to impose visa restrictions on former European Commissioner Thierry Breton and four leaders of organisations involved in combating disinformation. The European Union criticised the move, calling it unacceptable and describing it as an attempt to challenge EU sovereignty.
