Georgian PM highlights growing rift between peace advocates, war proponents

01 March 2025 13:52

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has emphasized that the ongoing conflict between pro-peace and pro-war forces is entering a critical stage, marking a clear division between those advocating for peace and those seeking to perpetuate the war.

In a post on his social media, Kobakhidze underscored that the struggle between the so-called Global War Party and the Deep State would not come to an end easily, Caliber.Az reports.

Kobakhidze noted that recent developments, particularly the polemic between former US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have further highlighted this divide.

According to Kobakhidze, Trump’s efforts to bring peace to Ukraine have been consistently met with condemnation from those responsible for prolonging the war. He pointed out that figures from the Global War Party, including prominent spokespeople like US Senator Jeanne Shaheen and various European officials, swiftly mobilized against Trump’s peace proposals.

Additionally, Georgian opposition leaders, who had once celebrated their proximity to Trump, quickly joined the chorus of criticism. This, according to Kobakhidze, marked another instance where a clear line was drawn between those who genuinely care about the plight of Ukrainians and those who continue to push for a prolonged conflict, even at the expense of further Ukrainian lives.

Kobakhidze emphasized that, once again, it has been demonstrated that the United States and the Global War Party are distinct entities, despite efforts by opponents to equate the two over the past three years. He believes the ongoing battle between the pro-peace forces and the Global War Party is entering a decisive phase.

"The sooner the war in Ukraine ends, the fewer Ukrainian lives will be lost, and the sooner peace will be established in the region as a whole," Kobakhidze concluded.

He extended his wishes for President Trump’s endurance and fortitude in this challenging struggle, expressing hope for an eventual victory for peace.
