Honored MPs, senators of France condemn vandalism against monument to Khurshidbanu Natavan

11 January 2024 17:22

Honored Senator of France Alain Vasselle has said that the events taking place in the French city of Evian-les-Bains is absurd, describing them as the action of pro-Armenian forces that are far from objectivity.

Commenting on the damage caused to the "Azerbaijan Park" as a result of the actions of pro-Armenian forces in Evian and the initiative to rename the park by the city mayor’s office, Vasselle told Report that there are different ways to express dissatisfaction with the events.

"However, writers and poets are our history. The works of our geniuses like Dumas and poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan are part of our cultural heritage and belong to our culture. What is happening in Evian is absurd and is the result of pro-Armenian forces that are completely far from objectivity."

The honored senator also added that conditions should have been created for Azerbaijan to peacefully restore its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"Through diplomatic channels, Armenia and Azerbaijan should have reached an agreement at the negotiating table."

Jerome Lambert, President of the Association of Friends of Azerbaijan in France and former member of the French National Assembly, also told Report that the actions of the Evian mayor’s office were completely inappropriate and the result of the activities of the very influential Armenian diaspora.

“Since Azerbaijan regained its sovereignty over the territories occupied by Armenia for 30 years, opposition forces, especially in France, have turned against official Baku. These forces are utilized by the Armenian diaspora in France, which is not satisfied with the situation. This opposition even resorts to hysterical behavior. They are trying to harm all symbols and places related to Azerbaijan. A number of representatives of the Armenian diaspora in France are making attempts to incite French politicians against Azerbaijan," he said.

“Azerbaijan has regained its rights. In France, pro-Armenian forces acting against Azerbaijan are preventing the establishment of peace between Baku and Yerevan. The actions of Evian mayor’s office are totally inappropriate and are the result of the activities of a very influential Armenian diaspora," Lambert noted.

Honored member of the French National Assembly, member of French delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO Jean-Luc Reitzer told Report that he was very saddened by the news of the vandalism against the monument to Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidban Natavan in Evian.

"I was saddened to learn about what happened in Evian. Azerbaijan and France have always enjoyed excellent relations in economic, cultural and other spheres. But, unfortunately, today in France, many people who are not familiar with Azerbaijan, its history, who have never been to this country, take an anti-Azerbaijani stance".

“During the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan managed to restore its territorial integrity. Those who talk about Armenian refugees have forgotten that hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were forced to leave their homes in Karabakh after the First Karabakh War and were expelled from their native land. I have been in the camps for IDPs in Baku. I am very saddened by my country's unfair attitude towards Azerbaijan and its people today," Reitzer added.
