Iran denies US claims of strike on IRGC special forces in Iraq, Syria
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani called false the statements of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) that as a result of a recent attack by the US Air Force on the territory of Syria and Iraq, the positions of the Al-Quds Forces, members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, were hit.
“America’s accusations are false, and it cannot use them to justify its actions, which violate the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of the countries of the region,” Kanani said at a weekly press conference, according to TASS.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on February 3 that Iran strongly condemns the U.S. strikes on Iraq and Syria and considers them a strategic mistake that will increase tensions in the region.
According to CENTCOM, on the night of February 3, U.S. aircraft struck more than 85 targets in a series of strikes against positions of Iran's IRGC's Al-Quds Special Forces and affiliated groups in several border areas of Iraq and Syria.
The strikes were in response to an attack on a Western coalition military base near Al-Tanf on the Syrian-Jordanian border that killed three U.S. troops and wounded 40.
The U.S. and NATO have blamed Shiite armed groups, which they believe are backed by Tehran.
