Iran officially informs IAEA of threats from Israel

21 October 2024 19:09

Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei has said that Iran officially submitted complaints to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Security Council regarding perceived threats from Israel against its nuclear facilities.

Baghaei made these remarks during a press conference, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

"Iran views these threats as a security concern for the international community and, in this regard, has issued a formal protest to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the UN Security Council," he stated in response to a question about Tehran's reaction to Israeli threats.

He added that threats of strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities are unacceptable and violate international law.

On the evening of October 1, Iran launched a massive missile strike on Israel in retaliation for the assassinations of key figures in the leadership of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Tehran reported that 90 per cent of the missiles successfully hit their intended targets; however, Israel claims that Iran fired approximately 180 missiles, most of which were intercepted. The Israeli General Staff has vowed to respond to the attack.

On October 11, during a press conference in Laos, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasised that carrying out threats to attack peaceful nuclear facilities in Tehran in response to Iran's missile strike on Israel would constitute a very serious provocation.
