Iran proposes unified payment systems for BRICS Offers support to Lebanon against Israeli aggression
Iran has put forward a proposal to integrate the national payment systems of all BRICS countries, extending a mechanism already established between Iran and Russia.
Spokesman for Iranian Foreign Ministry Nasser Kanani told a press conference that discussions are underway to unify payment systems among BRICS nations to facilitate trade settlements in national currencies, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"We have proposed to the Russian side to extend this mechanism to the BRICS countries," Kanani said, emphasizing the positive reception of the proposal by Russian authorities. The recent completion of linking Russia and Iran's national payment systems through their central banks sets a precedent for broader regional cooperation in financial transactions.
Iranian authorities expressed optimism about expanding trade facilitation tools beyond bilateral relations with Russia to encompass the BRICS bloc. "Consultations on this issue are ongoing, and we hope to see fruitful outcomes soon," Kanani added.
In a separate statement addressing regional security concerns, Kanani reaffirmed Iran's commitment to supporting Lebanon in the face of potential aggression from Israel.
In his remarks, Kanani asserted Iran's readiness to assist Lebanon if it faces any threats or attacks.
"Any aggression against Lebanon would destabilize the region and escalate tensions. Iran considers supporting Lebanon as a fundamental aspect of its foreign policy and stands ready to provide assistance when necessary," Kanani declared, underscoring Iran's stance on regional stability amidst heightened geopolitical tensions.
