Iran says it dismantled two “terrorist” groups after US strikes
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had dismantled two “terrorist” groups allegedly linked to Israel and the United States, as tensions escalate following a recent exchange of strikes between Tehran and Washington.
The IRGC statement, carried by the Tasnim news agency, said the cells were identified and neutralised during a joint operation conducted with the Iranian army. No additional details were disclosed.
The announcement comes amid heightened hostilities between Iran and the United States. On the night of July 8, U.S. forces carried out a series of strikes across Iran. Iranian officials said their military responded by targeting U.S. bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, accusing Washington of violating a memorandum on the cessation of military actions.
Iranian media reported explosions in several locations, including Abu Musa Island in the Persian Gulf and the cities of Iranshahr, Chabahar, Konarak, Sirik, Jask and Bandar Abbas.
In Bandar Abbas, the Mehr news agency said air defence systems were engaged in firing at what it described as hostile aerial targets over the city.
