Iran signals willingness for US talks but only on its terms
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has confirmed plans for potential negotiations with the United States, stating that, at the request of friendly countries in the region, he has instructed Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to engage in talks with Washington.
Pezeshkian announced the decision in a post on his account on the social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.

“I have instructed my Minister of Foreign Affairs, provided that a suitable environment exists—one free from threats and unreasonable expectations—to pursue fair and equitable negotiations, guided by the principles of dignity, prudence, and expediency,” the Iranian president noted.
Pezeshkian further emphasized that all negotiations should be condfucted within the framework of the national interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Earlier reports had already indicated that such an instruction had been issued by Pezeshkian. Meanwhile, Western media outlets have reported that talks between Foreign Minister Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are scheduled to take place on February 6 in Istanbul.
