Italy condemns French FM statements that could harm Azerbaijan-Armenia peace efforts
Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, has cautioned against statements from external parties that could escalate tensions.
"The ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia has become durable thanks to the responsibility of both countries, but it is clear that any improvised statement by representatives of institutions other than the parties involved risks exacerbating tensions,” Cirielli said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Giornale Diplomatico.
Cirielli warns that such statements have the potential to undermine efforts towards stability.
"Azerbaijan, host of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), is taking a responsible stance, and the statements at the joint press conference with the US Secretary of State by the French Foreign Minister Stéphane Sejourne certainly do not help to calm the situation. It would be appropriate and helpful if French Minister Sejourne did not prejudice the efforts of many who are moving forward with common sense to finally pacify the area," Cirielli concluded.
