Justice Ministry: Several countries extradite over 10 people to Azerbaijan in 2023
Several countries extradited 14 people to Azerbaijan in 2023.
Some 14 people were extradited to Azerbaijan from the UK, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Moldova, as well as from Ukraine in 2023, after receiving the European countries’ consent for extradition, the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry told Report.
The Justice Ministry effectively cooperates with various countries in extradition of criminals on the basis of bilateral agreements and multilateral conventions. If there are no corresponding agreements, the measures are taken proceeding from the principle of reciprocity.
Moreover, new penitentiary complexes that meet international standards are being built in Baku and in the Azerbaijani districts.
The newest one was put into operation in Lankaran on January 16. President Aliyev viewed the modern conditions created in that penitentiary complex.
The positive decisions on extradition are made in relation to Azerbaijan thanks to these measures, which protect the rights of prisoners and accused people and modernise the detention conditions. As a result, the principle of inevitability of punishment has been ensured.
